Crete - Heraklion or Chania?

Heraklion or Chania? I couldn’t decide, so I went to both! Here’s my thoughts

So, my girls and I went back and forth with Heraklion or Chania… So we decided to fly into Heraklion, where we stayed for a couple of days.

Then drove to Chania, where we spent the remainder of our week.

Heraklion or Chania? I couldn’t decide, so I went to both! Here’s my thoughts

Both had beautiful architecture, sunsets, food and vibes.

Heraklion…

However, we found ourselves getting bored quickly, we were glad to be moving on.

There are museums (which I read are great if you love ancient history and archaeology) but otherwise not much else is there.

While you may stumble upon a handful of restaurants and brunch places, I found the options pretty limited.

Whereas Chania…

…was amazing and is firmly sitting at the top of my recommendation list. The vibes were immaculate.

If you can’t already tell… Chania is my favourite by far, so let me break it down.

Restaurants

The restaurants along the front are amazing and weirdly not expensive!

I found Chania as a whole to be surprisingly affordable.

If you are planning on visiting any of these (We ate at Canale and Palazzo - get the Tuna Steak!) then I’d recommend you book for sunset because it was magical.

Brunch

We had an absolute favourite brunch place… DROPS. The food was delicious, the orange juice was fresh and they had the best coffee (and iced coffee) we managed to have the whole trip. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and greeted us with excitement every day we went.

Restaurant - Palazzo

Beach Clubs

Neromilos beach and pool bar - DO NOT MISS. Unfortunately the weather for us took a turn this day, but the feel and vibe was still there.

Let me tell you… when I walked into this place I thought ‘yeah there’s no way we are paying to be here’. The staff had clean, crisp uniforms on - nothing fancy but they were put together. The decoration, a huge pool, big fat comfy sunbeds on the beach; with the what I would describe as posh umbrellas and little tables.

I was shocked when we were told that for €30 we got 4 sunbeds, 2 umbrellas and 4 litres of ice cold water. … €30 /€7.50 each to be there ALL DAY!

I said TAKE MY MONEYYYYY.

Anyway, as we got settled I thought, surely there is a catch. I checked the food menu… very decently priced. Even the ice creams were cheap.

I am very happy to report back that there was no catch, the place just really was well priced! - Some of you may also be please to know that it is Adults only too YEEHAWWW.
